The Moreton Bay Region is the local government area that makes up the northern part of Greater Brisbane. The area is home to 425,302 people as of the 2016 census.[1] Moreton Bay Regional Council is the government authority for the area.[2]
Demographics[]
In the 2016 census, the Moreton Bay Region recorded a population of 425,302 people, 51.1% female and 48.9% male. The median age of the Moreton Bay population was 38 years, same as the national median. 74.3% of people living in Moreton Bay were born in Australia. The other top responses for country of birth were New Zealand (5.0%), England (4.9%), South Africa (1.1%), the Philippines (0.8%) and Scotland (0.6%).
Moreton Bay is a predominantly family local government area with 76.3% of households being family households. Of these family households, 61.4% have children. The other households are single-person households (20.7%) and group households (3.1%).[1]
Employment and wealth[]
In 2016, the Moreton Bay Region had an unemployment rate of 7.7%, 0.8% higher than the national rate. The top industries were hospitals (except psychiatric hospitals) (4.1%), supermarket and grocery stores (2.8%), primary education (2.6%), aged care residential services (2.4%) and takeaway food services (2.3%).
The weekly median household income was $1,413 (annually $73,476) and the weekly median personal income was $652 (annually $33,904).[1]
