Redland City is the local government area that comprises of the eastern area of Brisbane as well as islands such as North Stradbroke Island. There are 147,010 people living within the area as of the 2016 census.[1] Redland City Council is the government authority for the area.[2]

In the 2016 census, Redland City recorded a population of 147,010 people, 51% female and 49% male. The median age of the Redland population was 41 years, 3 years above the national median. 72.5% of people living in Redland were born in Australia. The other top responses for country of birth were England (6.7%), New Zealand (5.4%), South Africa (1.7%), Scotland (0.9%) and the Philippines (0.5%).

Redland is a predominantly family local government area with 76.6% of households being family households. Of these family households, 59.5% have children. The other households are single-person households (20.8%) and group households (2.6%).[1]

Employment and wealth[]

In 2016, Redland City had an unemployment rate of 6.1%, 0.8% lower than the national rate. The top industries were hospitals (except psychiatric hospitals) (3.7%), supermarket and grocery stores (2.7%), primary education (2.6%), aged care residential services (2.3%) and cafes and restaurants (1.9%).

The weekly median household income was $1,521 (annually $79,092) and the weekly median personal income was $686 (annually $35,672).[1]
